About the calculation
- What we calculate
- How many months the cash lasts at the current net burn, and how much is missing to reach the milestone.
- Assumptions
- Receipts and payments are the same every month. One-off payments, seasonality and late payments are not taken into account: the retention released at handover is not in it.
- What the result means
- If the runway is shorter than the road to the milestone, the time to decide is now, while there are months left: pay on certified quantities, ask for an advance, hand over in parts or arrange a credit line in good time.
- What to check next
- A month by month plan for the same months, and what happens if certificate payments slip by two months.
Four levers
- Lower the burn. Pay subcontractors for certified quantities, not in advance on the foreman’s word. Which costs can stop within a month without moving the handover?
- Raise receipts. An advance on the next contract, certificates every month instead of by stage, a bank guarantee in place of the retention.
- Bring the milestone closer. Hand over the finished part of the site early and get it signed, so part of the retention and the final certificate come before the full handover.
- Arrange money earlier. A credit line or factoring of certified invoices takes weeks to arrange, so start while the runway still covers the search.
